The “TEA WITH LADY GRANTHAM SHAWL” is no longer a free pattern.  As with all my “Crochet / knit-along-while-I-design” patterns, once the patterns are complete I wait a little while then the patterns become paid pdf downloads.  There will be more of these crochet/knit-along-while-I-designs soon–they will be announced on my Face Book Page, G+, Twitter, and Pinterest.

The 2 stitches I’ve chosen for this week’s rows in the Tea With Lady Grantham Shawl will be more Post Stitches that will give the impression of the Mock Rib stitch and Reverse Angle Mesh Lace used in the knitted Downton Abbey shawl–except my Front-Post and Back-Post Double Crochet Mesh Lace does not ‘reverse angle.’  These back post and front post double crochet stitches are a wonderful way to add texture to crocheted items, and today’s work is no exception.  The second pattern will only be a little different from the first–but the difference in appearance is amazing!

ABREVIATIONS & NOTES

*****CANADIAN/US CROCHET TERMS USED*****

sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet;  ch = chain;  inc = increase; dec = decrease; * to * = repeat the instructions between the * – *

sc4 = make 1 single crochet in each  of the next 4 (or other number given; and of course ‘dc4′ would mean ‘double crochet 4,’ etc.)

fpdc = front post double crochet; bpdc = back post double crochet

v-stitch = (dc, ch1, dc) all in the same stitch or in a ch 1 space–often in the centre ch1 of v-stitch the previous row, when I will say “v-stitch in v-stitch.”

THE FIRST STITCH PATTERN IN THIS SECTION USES FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET AND BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET, ALTERNATED; I INTEND IT TO MIMIC THE IDEA OF THE KNITTED MOCK RIB STITCH.

THE SECOND STITCH PATTERN THIS WEEK IS MUCH MORE OPEN AND LACY, WITH THE POST STITCHES SEPARATED BY A CHAIN 1 CREATING AN OPEN MESH.

IF YOU MAKE THIS SHAWL, PLEASE MARK IT AS A FAVOURITE IN RAVELRY AND LINK IT TO MY DESIGN PAGE–THANKS!  YOU CAN ALSO POST PHOTOS AND COMMENTS ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE IF YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE OR IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS.

Continuing with the “Tea With Lady Grantham” shawl now, I will tell you the steps I took for week 2.  This yarn shows up stitch details much better than the variegated yarn I used for the other shawl, and the double-crochet based stitches are also, I find, more textured.

****NOTE THAT I FOUND ERRORS IN ROW 18****IF YOU HAVE WRITTEN OUT OR SAVED THIS PATTERN PLEASE MAKE THE CORRECTIONS.  CORRECTIONS ARE INCLUDED IN THE FINAL PDF VERSION BUT I AM LEAVING THE EDITS HERE IN CASE YOU HAVE ALREADY COPIED THIS OUT!  I APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.
